New Sixth Form Centre at Middlesbrough College Receives £6.8 Million Funding

Middlesbrough College has been given £6.8 million to fund a new Sixth Form Centre, which will shortly be built for the college. The new building will provide placements for students and vacancies for teachers and other staff. The new centre will be completed in the 2012/2013 academic year, and will be a massive 138,000 square feet. The centre will be situated on Dock Street, opposite the existing college. The Victorian style of the surrounding buildings will be taken into account in the construction of the new centre.

The construction of the Sixth Form Centre will be undertaken by Miller Construction, who have previously built colleges including Hartlepool Sixth Form College, East Durham College and others in the North East. Additionally, the team from Miller Construction will work with students to teach them about the construction process and to advise them on the ways in which they can achieve a career in the construction sector.

Middlesbrough College obtained funding for its £6.8 million centre with the help of others including lawyer John Booth from law firm Dickinson Dees. Booth, along with staff from the law firm, advised the college and aided them in securing the new centre.

The centre is dedicated to teaching A Level and AS Level studies and is expected to hold up to 300 students. It will feature 13 classrooms, tutorial rooms, sports facilities, an IT suite, vocational facilities and a social student lounge area. The college will provide students with some of the best facilities in England and will offer a large range of subjects to students in the Middlesbrough area.
