A 30-year career has come to an end for Malcolm Wilkinson, Headmaster at the independent Teesside High School in Eaglescliff, near Middlesbrough.
The Cambridge University graduate first joined the school’s history department in 1981 as a history teacher. His career at the school saw him become Head of the History Department before joining the Senior Leadership Team, taking over the reigns of Headmaster in early 2011.
Malcolm has seen many changes to the education system during his 30-year tenure, not least the transition from chalk and blackboard to computers. He also played a significant part in the smooth intake of boys to the school for the first time in 2004.
The former Headmaster, keen historian, and father of two, is looking forward to a long and happy retirement. He is planning to enjoy the golf courses in Middlesbrough and indulge his passion for writing. He will also be kept busy with a long list of jobs courtesy of his wife, Ann.
A special assembly was held at the school to say a fond farewell to Malcolm. The event, attended by the whole school, featured a look back at the popular teacher’s career and included an emotional farewell speech by Head Boy, James Renwick, and Head Girl, Laura Awad.
Teesside High was launched into the spotlight in recent times with the success of former pupil, Amelia Lily, in the ITV show, The X Factor. The budding starlet was reunited with her Headmaster when she returned to Middlesbrough to perform at the school as part of the show.
A new permanent Headmistress, Deborah Duncan, will take over leadership at the School in January 2012.
