A Worthington couple are celebrating after 60 years of marriage. Bernard and Hermione How met 62 years ago at a fair in the village of Isleham, where Mrs How is from.
After courting for two years, the couple were married at St Andrew’s Church in Isleham when Mr How was 27 and Mrs How was 22.
They have said that patience and understanding have been the successful foundation of their long and happy marriage.
They have two sons, Lelie and Brian and three grandchildren; Vanessa, 23, Grant, 16, and seven-year-old Callum.
Mr How was raised in Freckenham and joined the RAF when he was 17, during the Second World War. He flew operations over Europe with the Air Force Bomber Command.
He then worked for three construction companies before finally working for Haymills for 36 years. He retired at the age of 67.
The happy couple celebrated at their local pub, The Walnut Tree, with a meal for their friends and family. Instead of gifts, they have asked for donations to the West Suffolk Hospital. They thanked everyone who took the time to send them a congratulatory card.
