Mayor kicks habit for hospice

Mayor Neil Phillips has found a great way to stick to his New Year’s Resolution – he has made it a public fundraising campaign. The Mayor of Nuneaton and Bedworth has decided to give up smoking and raise money for the Mary Ann Evans Hospice at the same time.

‘Hospital staff got me walking again’

A man who has taken his first steps in six years has praised hospital staff for getting him back on his feet. Robert Austin, 45, of Camp Hill Road, Nuneaton, was left virtually paralysed after suffering from a severe viral infection in 2006. He was left unable to walk or talk after the illness, but has finally started to walk again.

Churchgoers sleep rough

Church members slept outside for a night to raise money and awareness for the homeless. Members of the congregation of Lifechurch, in Vicarage Street, took part in the Big Sleep Out to collect food and money for the needy.

MBE for grandmother

Grandmother Sheila Hinds had a big secret to keep over Christmas after finding out she was on the New Year’s Honours List. Sheila, 66, said the news that she was being awarded an MBE made her Christmas, even though she was not allowed to tell anyone.
