Slimmer Alison Purvis-Gisborne has won a national award after losing a staggering 9st. Alison, 36, a sports physiology lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, has been named the Rosemary Conley Online Slimmer of the Year after dropping from 20st to just under 11st.

Volunteer Christine Manby has been named in the New Year’s Honours list after years of service with the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS). Christine, from Sheffield, who has volunteered for the service for 20 years, has been awarded the OBE. She said: “I was absolutely taken aback to get the OBE, I thought it was unbelievable.
