Firewalk by Saracens St Albans raises money for hospice
Saracens rugby players and staff from the club bared their soles in St Albans, all in the name of charity. The charitable participants walked barefoot over fiery embers to raise money for the Hospice of St Francis which care for people with terminal illnesses. The rugby player put their years of dodging tackles and quick footwork to use as they made their way across the burning embers at Woollams playing fields, Harpenden Road. Jon Desborough, weekday afternoon presenter on Sky Sports News, has won a prestigious national volunteering award at a charity cricket event that he arranged in Harpenden. Jon was given the Chance to Shine Volunteer of the Year Award at the Brit Achievement Awards. He created the ‘Hitting 50’, charity celebrity cricket match to celebrate his half century age and to raise money for charity. St Albans frisbee throwers have struck gold in international competitions. Steve Balls, 34, a member of the St Albans Ultimate frisbee club, was crowned as world champion during the World Beach Ultimate Championships in Italy. He was taking part as a member of the Great Britain team.
