Frisbee club strikes gold

St Albans frisbee throwers have struck gold in international competitions. Steve Balls, 34, a member of the St Albans Ultimate frisbee club, was crowned as world champion during the World Beach Ultimate Championships in Italy. He was taking part as a member of the Great Britain team.

Over 50s urged to get fit

Residents over 50 are being encouraged to get fit and active with an exercise programme designed just for them. The special over 50s scheme has been organised by the Herts Sports Partnership, St Albans Arts, Sport & Health and the Saracens Sport Foundation.

Pianos put school on exclusive list

St Albans School has joined a very exclusive list after taking delivery of a special set of pianos. The school, in Abbey Gateway, has now been named one of only two All-Steinway Schools in the country. A school is given All-Steinway status if its students only learn and perform on the expensive Steinway pianos.

Giant catfish puts up a fight

A giant catfish caught in St Albans Lake took the angler an hour to reel in. Angler Roger Tooley faced a huge struggle to bring the 53lb mammoth fish to the bank during a fishing trip with his 16-year-old daughter Jessica.

Historic religious book displayed for all to enjoy

A replica religious book containing medieval Christian art now has pride of place in St Albans Cathedral. The book, originally made in the city nearly 1,000 years ago, has been presented to the Cathedral in a ceremony and is now on display in its exhibition area.
