Harpenden charity cricket match brings award for Sky Sports’ Jon Desborough
Jon Desborough, weekday afternoon presenter on Sky Sports News, has won a prestigious national volunteering award at a charity cricket event that he arranged in Harpenden. Jon was given the Chance to Shine Volunteer of the Year Award at the Brit Achievement Awards. He created the ‘Hitting 50’, charity celebrity cricket match to celebrate his half century age and to raise money for charity. Stephanie Effiom, a former pupil at St Albans Girls’ School (STAGS ) has described performing with Marcus Collins on The X Factor as both a privilege and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Stephanie met Tulisa’s dog backstage and was called “honey” by judge Kelly Rowland when she performed on the popular show’s Movie themed night. St Albans frisbee throwers have struck gold in international competitions. Steve Balls, 34, a member of the St Albans Ultimate frisbee club, was crowned as world champion during the World Beach Ultimate Championships in Italy. He was taking part as a member of the Great Britain team.
