Rally driver visits racing fan

It was a dream come true for seven-year-old James Bradley when he was visited by a British Rally Championship driver. Driver Louise Cook paid a visit to the Cheam youngster to unveil his newly decorated rally-themed bedroom after he won a national competition. James, a big racing fan, also got to sit behind the wheel of the leading female rally driver’s Fiesta ST car.

Sutton gets supernatural airing

A programme about the supernatural brought Sutton to the small screen once again. An episode of Tony Robinson’s new series Gods and Monsters was filmed in Bawtree House, a former old people’s home in Worcester Road, and aired on December 10. The series, which is being hosted by the star of Blackadder and Time Team, looks at our ancestors’ paranormal explanations for death and disease, including fairy abductions, sickness-spreading elves and cannibal cures.

History lesson in town centre

Visitors to Sutton town centre can now enjoy a quick history lesson thanks to a new plaque. The plaque, in Trinity Square, has been set up to explain stories behind a mosaic of historic images that has been in the town since 1994. The mosaic, opposite the Waterstone’s bookshop, contains 19 intricate panels illustrating relevant stories in the town’s rich history, but many people did not know anything about each of the pictures.
