Earlier this year residents of Taunton, Somerset experienced a strange, if slightly frightening display, as thousands of birds created the formation of a giant cobra in the sky.
It is a legendary in Somerset for migrating starlings to show off their amazing aerial displays around this time of year, known as ‘murmation’, one of nature’s finest spectaculars. The starlings migrate to the UK to escape the harsher climates of European countries. The formation of murmation is supposedly a result of their survival instinct, to protect them from predators by traveling together.
