A man who is losing his sight is planning to walk to all 92 football league clubs in the hopes of raising £20,000 for charity.
Paul Hodgkinson is planning on spending 18 weeks walking the 2,250 miles. The 44 year old from Wrenthorpe had to have his left eye removed following an accident when he was 13.
His impairment hasn’t stopped him from living life to the full; he has worked as an electrician and driven both cars and motorbikes.
Unfortunately, he is now losing the sight in his right eye and has had to give it all up.
For his charity walk he will have to trek for around 20 miles a day. On the 14th April he will cross paths with Sir Ian Botham who will be taking part in his own charity walk at Nostell Priory.
Mr Hodgkinson said: “Before I lose my sight completely I want to do something that I know will help many people. It will take me as long as it takes and I will complete it whatever.
“When you go through losing your sight, there are a lot of emotions. I have gone from working 90 hours a week to nothing – it is very demoralising.”
He is raising money for the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) and Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research.
Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research carries out research into blood cancers including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma and is actively supported by Sir Ian.
The famous England cricketer will be raising money for the charity in a walk around the Nostell estate and has invited residents to join him on the day.
