Lap dance debut in Corrie for Bradford actress

A Bradford actress has made her debut on the famous Coronation Street cobbles as a lap dancer in the Rover’s Return. Abi Uttley plays Cherry, a dancer who comes to Weatherfield looking for work at Terry Duckworth’s new lap dancing club. She mistakes the famous pub as the venue and performs a lap dance to the horror of the street’s busybody and gossip Norris Cole.

Eastenders star Barbara Windsor is thrilled with Bradford honour

Barbara Windsor was recalling happy memories of her time working in Bradford when she came to the city to receive a Lifetime Achievement award. The national treasure, who is the star of Carry On films and Eastenders was recognised at the Bradford International Film Festival for her work. The actress was interviewed by the festival’s co-director Tom Vincent before a screening of her 1964 film Sparrers Can’t Sing.

Yorkshire young farmers’ export drive backed by Keighley scooter firm

Young Farmers are starting a challenge that will see them travel from Yorkshire to Torquay on Freerider mobility scooters as part of their annual Yorkshire’s Greatest Export campaign. The participants will transport giant versions of their export products (potatoes and wool bearing sheep) to the 2012 Young Farmers’ annual meeting in Torquay.

Mock trial contest final won by Bradford pupils

Belle Vue Girls School pupils had the opportunity to visit a Victorian courtroom at Bradford City Hall to celebrate their achievement; winning a place in the regional finals of the Magistrates’ Court Mock Trial Competition.

Bradford nurse receives early present

A Bradford nurse has won an Audi A1 in a local NHS prize draw. Katie South, who is a theatre sister at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, was given the keys to her new luxury car by trust chief executive, Bryan Millar. K2 mountain challenge backed by Bradford’s Lord Mayor

Bradford’s Lord Mayor is taking part in a fundraising expedition to Pakistan in partnership with a Bradford based humanitarian charity. The Sunbridge Road based Basic Human Rights charity will take charitable volunteers on a trek to the K2 base camp as well as projects run by the charity in Pakistan. It is hoped that they will be able to raise money for education projects in the country.

Science In The City

Bradford is gearing up for some big bangs and crashes when the British Science Festival takes place in the city.   Bradford has been chosen as the location for the 2011 festival, which is held in a different location every year. Events will be taking place over a week at different venues in the city, with Bradford University being the central location of the event.

Young Entrepreneurs Win Challenge

It is a mixture of Dragons’ Den and The Apprentice in Bradford as schoolchildren battle it out in a business competition. Over 200 teams of schoolchildren pitched their inventions and ideas in the Step Up Enterprise Market Challenge run by Bradford Council. Judges chose 61 winning entries to take part in a final that will involve selling their items at a market and trying to make a profit.
