Teenage fashion student Gemma Halliwell has scooped a top award during a show at the London Fashion Week. The Bury College student saw her outfit paraded on the catwalk after winning a prize in the 2011 FAD Junior Awards.

Savvy inventor gets TV moment

Bury businesswoman Michelle Savage and her daughter Elisha have had their moment of fame after appearing on TV’s Dragons’ Den. Michelle, who invented a beauty tool called Savvylash, used her daughter as a model during her pitch to the dragons. The show was aired at the end of September.

New event lights up the town

Giant wandering birds and illuminating projections were just some of the unusual attractions in Bury town centre during a new event entitled Light Night. The Bury Council event aimed to paint the town in a whole new light for one evening, and was the first of its kind in the region.

A new memorial garden has been built in Bury to commemorate the work of the Lancashire Fusiliers. The town has a long history with the Fusiliers, due to the former Wellington Barracks being in the town.

Sporting stars head off to finals

Bury’s top sporting stars have been announced at a special awards ceremony, and will now go on to represent the borough in the regional finals. Bury Council announced six winners to the sound of cheers and applause at the Bury Sports Awards.
