Beavers celebrate with fake wounds

Fake wounds and hunting for treasure were just some of the fun things on offer during a celebration day for scouts, beavers and cubs.

Boys from all over the county enjoyed the fun day in Humberston, on the outskirts of Grimsby, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the beavers.

The event was part of national anniversary celebrations and included a chance to be given fake wounds, a treasure hunt, a bouncy castle and much more.

Pam Thompson, assistant district commissioner for the scouts, said: “It is a great chance for them to try out new things and enjoy the sunshine.

“The day is just about having fun, meeting each other and celebrating the fact that beavers is 25 years old.

Serena Barnard, district beaver advisor, added: “It is a very proud day for beavers and the sun has shone for us, which is lucky.

“It is all about giving them new ideas and trying new things, so we had plenty of activities that encouraged that.”

Beaver Miles Peck, seven, of the Cleethorpes Beaver Branch, said: “Beavers is awesome and I am having loads of fun. I’ve never had a fake wound before – it looks gross.”

Another highlight of the day was a low rope obstacle course, which was organised by former scout David Beasley. He said: “This is a great activity and shows that it is not all about sitting in a classroom learning to tie knots. I used to love being a scout so I wanted to give something back and take the pressure off the leaders too.”
