Brave youngster Skyla Paige Bee has defied all the odds to celebrate her fifth birthday – and she certainly did it in style.
Skyla, who was given a one per cent chance of survival by doctors when she was born due to a heart condition, enjoyed a trip around town in a limousine to mark her big day, followed by a party.
The youngster, from Grimsby, has already had two major heart operations in her life after being born with a hole in the heart and a narrow heart valve.
Her mum Dannielle Bee said: “It was such a magical day for a girl who really does deserve the world.
“I am very proud of her determination with everything she does, she just carries on fighting each day.
“At school, Skyla has one-on-one lessons but will let people know when she has had enough and is tired.
“Each day is hard for me as I constantly worry about her as any parent would do for a child.
“I try not to look too far into the future as in the back of my mind I know she will need more surgery and eventually a heart transplant when older.
“It does break my heart but she makes me strong when I see her battle through each day like any normal child.”
Skyla’s heart problems were diagnosed through a scan before she was born.
Dannielle added: “It is amazing that she has celebrated her fifth birthday as doctors gave her a one per cent chance of survival when she collapsed at two weeks old.”
