Job fair helps hundreds

Hundreds of unemployed residents were given a helping hand during an annual jobs fair.

The Your Future event took place in Grimsby Town Hall in an aim to help those looking for work in the area.

The event included job offers, information about training opportunities and advice about job-hunting.

Organiser Jon Garniss, recruitment key accounts manager from Grimsby Scunthorpe Media Group, said: “It is always better for people to get advice from experts face to face.

“We recognise the fact that this event supports the local economy. If more people work, more people have money, which in turn helps local businesses as a whole.

“It is so important that we support the local community, and we find these events make people realise the opportunities that are out there. It gives them a confidence boost to keep looking for work.”

One of the companies exhibiting was McArthur Dean Training, a Hull-based firm that has recently opened an office in Town Hall Street, Grimsby. The firm offers training in everything from administration to management roles.

Pete Walters, of McArthur Dean Training, said: “There have been some potentially very good people so we will be following many of them up.

“It is clear these people want to work and we are looking forward to helping them.”

One job-hunter, Melissa Gissing-Thompson, 19, of Cleethorpes, said she hoped the fair would help her find full-time work.

She added: “It has been really useful and a lot of people have taken my details for various apprenticeships that are available. I need a full-time job as it is really difficult to get by on what I am earning.”
