There will be a roadshow launched in Ilford, to encourage people aged over 50 in the area to get fitter and healthier. The roadshow, which will be based in the Stratford Centre is part of the Go London campaign, and come just a year before London will be full of sports enthusiasts for the 2012 Olympics in the capital.

An air cadet from Ilford has been selected from 4,000 young people for the job of a lifetime. Alexandra Dutch, of the Wanstead and Woodford Air Training Corps, Finchingfield Avenue, Woodford Green, has been chosen to accompany the Lord Lieutenant of Greater London, Sir David Brewer on some of his official engagements. Gulzaeb Beg Ali, a model from the local area, was spotted when she was 15 years old by a make-up artist who wanted to use her for a photo shoot for a bridal magazine. Many more modelling jobs followed for the British Pakistani, and ten years later the model has featured in a host of magazines including Asian Woman, Asiana and Fanfare. Then she was offered the chance to present her own music show on Brit Asia TV.
