Epic climb film premieres in Hoy

There will be a glitzy premiere at Hoy Kirk for a new film about the stunning St John’s Head in Orkney. The film includes shots of beautiful local scenery that will take your breath away. Professional rock climber Dave MacLeod will also be at the event to talk about his adventure and free ascent of the famous Long Hope route on St John’s Head.

The film, ‘The Long Hope’, documents the three summers that Dave spent visiting Hoy and attempting to climb St John’s Head. The climb is one of the most difficult of its type in the world and the view from the top is listed as one of National Geographic’s top ten ocean views in the world.

As well as the film, there is also a new Hoy heritage exhibition that will relate to all things relating to the ‘Old Man of Hoy’ seastack including the Daniell print of the old man on two legs and an extensive postcard and newspaper clipping collection.

It is hoped that people will come and be part of the exhibition by bringing along some of their own Old Man of Hoy memorabilia which will then be photographed and scanned.

The Old Man will also be celebrated in song by the Stromabank Pub Choir who will sing a musical version of a Victorian poem about the Old Man.
