Residents Give Streets A Spring Clean

Residents have given their neighbourhood a spring clean.

The Dingle area of Liverpool even got a few licks of paint during the campaign in which more than 60 people volunteered their time.

Residents and staff from local businesses and agencies worked together in the clean-up, which was organised as part of European Neighbourhood Day.

The volunteers managed to create a new picnic area on Riverside Drive, put up hanging baskets throughout the area and paint the railings along Grafton Cliffs. Community planters were also given a new lease of life.

The group worked to generally tidy up the area, and managed to pick up a staggering 100 bags of litter. They also cleaned up areas that had been subjected to fly tipping and dog fouling.

Eight skips were provided for all the rubbish, and to allow residents to dispose of any other bulky waste.Councillor Steve Munby, city council cabinet member for neighbourhoods, took part in the day.

He said: “This was a real community effort from people who live and work in the area showing that they have pride in their neighbourhood.

“Dingle is cleaner and brighter because of their efforts. They really have proved to be good neighbours.”

Among those taking part or supporting the day were city council members and officers in environmental services, Liverpool Housing Trust, Jigsaw Neighbourhood Services, Liverpool Mutual Homes, Riverside Housing Group, Plus Dane Group, Merseyside Police, Enterprise Liverpool, Your Place, Lovell’s, HCA, Tesco and McDonald’s.

The council also aims to crack down on dog fouling and littering in the area.
