Pilgrim’s progress for new bishop

Luton was the first stop for new Bishop of Bedford, the Rt Rev Richard Atkinson, during his mini pilgrimage after his consecration at St Paul’s Cathedral. On his visit he met Luton mayor councillor Syd Knight and the town’s faith leaders. The visit started with prayers St Mary’s and ended 18 hours later at St Paul’s in Bedford.

MBE for ‘Inspirational’ Jenny Moody

Her amazing work on behalf of abused women has won Jenny Moody an MBE and a private visit from Princess Diana, but the fearless and passionate charity worker is now stepping down from Luton Women’s Aid; the charity which she started. Jenny started her organisation almost 40 years ago and stepped down from the charity in November. It is only now, months on, that she feels able to talk about her tough decision to leave.

Autism helped through making music

The founder of Women’s Aid in Luton, Jenny Moody MBE, is helping children with special needs. The 77 year old is working harder than ever after recently stepping down from the charity that she started 40 years ago. Now, Jenny and her son Doog have started to work to make music a communication tool for youngsters with autism.

Hilltop zoo open high pods

Whipsnade Zoo are planning on creating eight “luxury camping pods” that will be a year round attraction. It is hoped that the Lookout Lodge pods will open up a new market for the 80 year-old hilltop attraction.

A “once in a lifetime” experience is how the chief executive of the Bedfordshire Chamber of Commerce described receiving her MBE at Buckingham Palace. Cheryl Smart has spent 25 years working for the chamber and started working there to help export businesses. She has made a name for herself for her work taking businesses to many different countries around the world, some of which are known for their lack of hospitality towards women. Music and film stars join graduates

Nick Rhodes from Duran Duran was one of the star’s joining graduates at the University of Bedfordshire graduation ceremonies. The keyboard player from the famous 80s chart toppers was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Arts for his work in the music industry as a songwriter, producer and performer. Other people honoured by the university were film producer Katy Haber, Professor Dame Carol Black, Dr Yasmin Jetha, Music producer Peter Asher and Colonel Colin Mason CBE. Mr Rhodes said: “I am …
