Homes to be wrapped up

Homes in Nuneaton will be wrapped up to keep them warm thanks to a new grant.

The external wall insulation project has been launched in the region following £2 million of funding from energy company E.ON.

Both council and privately owned homes in the town will benefit from the home improvement scheme, which aims to make properties warmer and more efficient, as well as saving residents money.

External wall insulation is used for homes that are not suitable for cavity wall insulation. Some homes may also be given loft insulation and a new central heating system.

The project will launch in the Camp Hill area in May, following an open day in April to provide residents with information about the scheme.

Dawn Dawson, assistant director for housing and communities at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, said: “Attracting this level of funding for housing in Nuneaton is a huge achievement for both the council and residents.

“The properties we are targeting have not been able to benefit from previous insulation programmes because of the way they are constructed. External wall insulation offers a solution to this, with residents of these properties benefiting from lower energy bills at the same time as improving the appearance of homes in these communities.”

Jon Kirby, energy efficiency manager at E.ON, said: “Our concept of energy fit is based on helping people to use less energy by losing less energy – insulating their homes better and moderating their energy use.

“Through our work here in Nuneaton we’re able to help whole communities and really start to make a difference in building energy efficiency into our everyday lives.”
