Sporty youngsters get top role

Youngsters have been picked out for the opportunity of a lifetime due to all their efforts in sport.

The four pupils of King Edward VI College have been chosen from over 100 hopefuls to help out at the Paralympic Games 2012.

Philippa Hearnden, Lucy Davies, Siobhan Casey and Ryan Casey were chosen for their contribution to school and community sport over the past few years. They will be part of the Northern Warwickshire School Sports Partnership’s team of ten Young Games Makers chosen from across the region.

Philippa Hearnden, who is a Platinum Ambassador for the Northern Warwickshire School Sport Partnership, has also been selected to be the team leader.

She said: “I am very proud of the achievement we have made as a team. Being the oldest and the team leader was a lot of pressure so I wanted to encourage the team to show what we could do. I’m proud of everyone and can’t wait to be part of London 2012!”

Lucy Davies, a first year student at the college and a Sport Ambassador for Warwickshire, said: “I feel so happy to have been selected after putting in so many hours of hard work the last two years.

“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to be amongst the world’s best athletes. I couldn’t have wished for a better summer and I can’t wait!”

Clare Leeson, a tutor at the college, has also been selected as a volunteer on the Olympic Hockey Events Team.

She said: “I have been a passionate hockey player with Nuneaton Ladies for over 35 years and I see this as a way of giving something back to the sport I love.”
