Preston hairdresser Shruty Stephenson has always treated her clients like celebrities but now she is working with real stars!
Mum of two Shruty, who owns the Lostock Hall Scream hair salon, was over the moon when she was asked to join a team of hairdressers working on some of the country’s favourite stars at the National Television Awards.
Shruty was hand-picked by a former colleague: “After completing my scholarship with L’Oreal ID I had established a number of contacts and one of them contacted me to see if I would be interested in styling the stars of Emmerdale. Obviously I jumped at the chance.”
She took an all expenses paid trip the capital where she styled Sky 1’s Got To Dance judges, Adam Garcia and Kimberley Wyatt for a West End show.
She said: “We worked with the make-up company, Art Deco, who were doing all the make-up for the celebrities and we had around three hours to finish all 15 cast members to ensure they were red carpet ready; it was quite a surreal afternoon.”
“They were all really lovely and we had a great laugh and a joke with them, it was just like having a client; we showed them what we were using and recommended certain products to them. At the end of the day they are normal people and just want to be treated like that – even if they are a celebrity!”
Shruty is a former student at Preston College where she studied hairdressing. Once she finished her training she opened her salon and nine months later she entered into a two year programme with L’Oreal. This programme gave her the opportunity to work with some of the industry’s best hairdressers including Lady Gaga’s wigmaker, Charlie Le Mindu.
Shruty is now hoping to style hair at London Fashion Week and will be helping out at the Inside Soap awards.
All her new hairdressing jobs have affected her TV time though: “I am a big soap fan and I used to watch Emmerdale a lot. Nowadays I’m so busy, sadly I don’t get time to sit down and watch it anymore!”
