Olympic stars welcomed by Elaine

19 year old aspiring actress Elaine Fellows has been celebrating after being chosen to entertain the athletes taking part in the London 2012 Olympics.

Elaine is one of people from the National Youth Theatre who have will welcome athletes from around the world as they arrive for the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The teenager has been a member of the National Youth Theatre since 2010. She admitted that she was shocked when she discovered that she had been successful.

She said: “It’s not what I expected to be doing at 19.”

The Team Welcome Ceremonies will be created, written and performed by the National Youth Theatre.

They will welcome 204 Olympic teams and 170 Paralympic teams to the Athlete’s Village in the time leading up to the games.

At the end of the welcome ceremonies the participating teams will raise their flags and sing their national anthems.

Elaine will head to London on 25th June for rehearsals and will return to the capital at the end of July.

The theatre performers have already visited the Olympic Stadium so that they could get a taste of the games.

Elaine is currently a performing arts student at Southport College and she is already looking forward to her busy summer.

She said: “I don’t know what show we are going to be doing yet. I have had so much support from my family, I wouldn’t be where I am now if it wasn’t for them.

“My college has been really good as well, letting me have days off.”

She has even more to celebrate after finding out that she has won a place at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.

“It is something I have always wanted to do. There has never been anything else, I was quite academic at school and I got good GCSEs but this is something I have always wanted to do.”

“I plan on hopefully making a living as an actress on film or TV, or as a drama therapist.”
