Budding young producers, scriptwriters, directors and presenters can develop their skills thanks to a new £50,000 study centre. The Study Parks Multimedia Centre has been opened up at Scunthorpe United Football Club’s Glanford Park.

Museum needs young volunteers

Young volunteers are needed to take part in a museum exhibition project. North Lincolnshire Museum is looking for people aged between 16 and 25 to work on its project entitled Precious Cargoes, Stories Through Suitcases. The project, which will result in exhibitions at the museum and Normanby Hall, aims to record the stories, photographs and objects of migrant workers that have moved to the borough in the last 50 to 60 years.

Recycling helps East Africa fund

Residents’ recycling efforts have raised thousands of pounds for people in East Africa. The efforts of residents in North Lincolnshire have raised £3,000 for the Disaster Emergency Committee’s (DEC) East Africa Appeal. The money was raised after Palm Recycling pledged that for every tonne of cans, glass, paper and textiles recycled through the kerbside scheme they would donate £1 to charity.

The Pods up for international award

Scunthorpe’s new leisure centre The Pods has been shortlisted for an international award for architecture. The new building, which opened in July, has been shortlisted for The World Architecture Festival Awards in the sports building category. The Soccer City, National Stadium in Johannesburg won the title in 2010.

Businesses lend cash to schools

Businesses have lent cash to schools so the pupils can invest it and make a profit. The scheme, in North Lincolnshire, involves businesses lending £150 to primary and junior school children for them to use for their money-making ideas. Eight classes are taking part in the Make £5 Blossom project. It is the second time the scheme has been run in the borough. Earlier in the year ten schools were lent money and made more than £4,000 profit.
