Young volunteers are needed to take part in a museum exhibition project.
North Lincolnshire Museum is looking for people aged between 16 and 25 to work on its project entitled Precious Cargoes, Stories Through Suitcases.
The project, which will result in exhibitions at the museum and Normanby Hall, aims to record the stories, photographs and objects of migrant workers that have moved to the borough in the last 50 to 60 years.
The volunteers are needed from a variety of different communities. Their work will involve interviewing members of their community; collecting photographs, costumes and other memorabilia; scanning images at the museum; downloading oral history recordings; creating short films about the different communities; helping to plan and create exhibitions and helping to develop a marketing strategy to attract visitors to the exhibitions.
Cllr David Robinson, lead member for asset and estate management, sport, leisure and culture, said: “This is a great opportunity for people in North Lincolnshire to take part in an exciting project at North Lincolnshire Museum and Normanby Hall.
“Volunteers will be given a wide variety of tasks to complete throughout the project that will improve their skills and provide them with invaluable experience.”
It is hoped the volunteers will be able to improve their communication skills through interviewing people to collect oral history; IT skills in using digital technology such as sound recorders and film making equipment; creative skills by assisting in the exhibition process and events; cataloguing skills through scanning images and downloading interviews onto the archives and marketing skills in promotion of events and exhibitions.
