17 year old Hannah Myers, who was seriously hurt after getting hit by a car, has had a miraculous recovery.
She was knocked down while using a zebra crossing on Schools Hill, Cheadle, and spent two-and-a-half weeks in hospital recovering from a fractured hip and pelvis, torn liver and internal bleeding. Hannah’s doctors said that she was lucky to be alive.
Hannah is now back at home and has nearly completely recovered from the accident, but she is having to retake her final year at Xaverian College, Rusholme. The accident has caused Hannah to have black-outs and the music student is unable to play her instruments yet.
The ordeal has made her so anxious that she now walks a different route home from school.
The driver who hit Hannah was sent on a speed awareness course.
Hannah said: “It has had a big impact on my life. These are the most important years and I have missed so much, so many social occasions and my friends’ 18th birthdays. It is hard to deal with.
“I don’t remember the accident, it all feels like a dream and I didn’t cope with it very well at the beginning. I now take a longer route home as I don’t feel safe crossing Schools Hill.”
Hannah’s dad David, 53, said: “I do not want what happened to my daughter to happen to anyone else. It has been the worse moment of my life. To have police officers at your door telling me my daughter had been hurt, it was like being hit with a sledgehammer and I am very passionate about this situation getting sorted, Schools Hill is a death trap.”
“Thankfully she has made a full recovery and has started back at college, but she will have to do an extra year now and has missed part of what is the most socially important time of your life as a teenager.”
