Maths mad Shannon hoping to get votes in modelling competition

A teenager who is passionate about Maths is hoping that her skills will help her win a national competition.

15 year old Shannon Bellworthy, who hopes to work as a stockbroker when she is older, has been selected as a semi-finalist at the Miss Teen Great Britain contest.

Shannon is made it down to the final 100 competitors from an original group of 2,000 girls who entered.

The grand final will be held in Blackpool in September and Shannon is over the moon that she has come so far in the competition.

She was approached by two model scouts at the Clothes Show in Birmingham and was surprised to be picked out of the crowd.

“I was just at the show walking around when a talent scout came up to me and asked me if I’d like to enter.

“It was a real surprise but I was pretty flattered,” she said.

However, Shannon would be happier beating the stock market then posing on the pages of glossy magazines.

Her parents Rachel and Darren are very proud.

Rachel said: “It was a shock when Shannon told us she’d been approached.

“After that we never expected anything of it really, so it was really lovely when they contacted her to say she’d been selected to get this far!”

Events and contestant coordinator at Miss Teen Great Britain, Sophie Cartwright, said: “This is only our second year and we’ve had a fantastic response.

“We’re hoping it’s going to grow and grow. The judging to decide the finalists will happen at the end of this month so then we’ll know who will make it to Blackpool.”

“What is important at interview stage is that the girls have lots to say. The competition is about much more than just a pretty face, but to have both brains and beauty is a winning combination.

“Only 60 girls will make it through to the grand final so judging is going to be tough!”
