A Derby hairdresser has been described as a “fresh and exciting talent” by industry experts.
Angel Montague-Sayers fought off competition from thousands of other hopefuls under 30 to win the title of The Fashionista at Creative HEAD magazine’s 2012 It List awards.
The award offers recognition to a stylist who is demonstrating passion and skill and already excelling in their career.
The award was judged by industry experts who included artistic director at Trevor Sorbie Johanna Cree Brown and Diana Donaldson from the London College of Fashion Graduate School.
Johanna said: “A fresh and exciting talent, Angel is the future of hairdressing. Fashion is so important to her and she gets it.”
Angel received a standing ovation when she collected the trophy which was hosted by comedian Seann Walsh at London’s Royal Courts of Justice.
22 year old Angel works at Sally Montague Hair Group in Ashbourne and Duffield, said: “It was the first award of the night and I was really shocked to win. But it is a big honour for top people in the hairdressing and fashion world to recognise my work. I think they liked the fact that as well as creative work I also work in a salon and that I teach.”
She was shortlisted for the award after submitting a portfolio of her work. The talented hair stylist has already worked at various shows including New York Fashion Week and she is hoping that the award will offer more opportunities. Angel’s mother Sally owns hair salons throughout Derbyshire.
Angel said: “I have had a lot of phone calls already, so I am hoping this will be a big boost.”
Four other hairdressers were awarded for their work in the ceremony which recognises emerging young stylists who will influence the future of British hairdressing.
