European award hopes for airport hotel

One of the leading hotels in Derby is in the running for an international design award.

The Radisson Blu at East Midlands Airport has been named as one of the finalist for the Sustainable Hotel Design category in the European Hotel Design Awards.

The hotel, which cost £22m, will be up against stiff competition from hotels in Athens and Milan. The category awards hotels that were built using innovative design and architecture and environmentally friendly principles.

The 218-room Radisson Blu opened in 2011 and is the most environmentally efficient hotel in the Rezidor Group’s European portfolio which includes over 400 hotels.

The winner of the award will be announced on 20th November.
