Big Cat Fundraiser

A big cat fundraising evening has been a roaring success.

The evening dedicated to cheetahs was held at Paradise Wildlife Park, in White Stubbs Lane, Broxbourne, and raised £2,000 for conservation projects in the wild.

The event was organised by the Wildlife Heritage Foundation and the Friends of Paradise Park.

More than 100 people flocked to the evening, where they were given a chance to visit and explore the park’s big cat area before watching them being fed. The park has the biggest collection of big cats in Europe. Its cat walk allows visitors to go on a tour of the snow leopards, white lions, cheetahs and jaguars and see the animals close-up.

Park visitors also have an opportunity to feed some of the big cats themselves by hand if they book one of the park’s Big Cat Experiences.

Visitors to the fundraising evening were then given a talk by Annie Beckhelling, of Cheetah Outreach, about its campaign to raise awareness of the cheetah’s plight. She talked about projects to protect the cheetahs in South Africa by finding ways of protecting livestock so there is less conflict between the farmers and the cheetahs.A raffle was also held during the evening, with cheetah-themed prizes. The Paradise Wildlife Park is set to go wild after closing time with its Zoo Rocks events in July and August.

The events aim to mix wild animals with live music. The Overtures will be putting on their Spectacular Sixties show in the Safari Suite on selected dates.
