Elvis’ daughter stars as Hainault charity ball raises £59,000

Elvis’ daughter Lisa Marie Presley was in the area watching with pride as a framed photograph of her father and one of his plectrums was auctioned off for an amazing £7,000.

In total, the ball for the Dream Factory children’s charity raised £59,000 which will go towards making dreams come true for sick youngsters. It took place at the Prince Regent Hotel in Manor Road and had a host of famous names in attendance.

Film and television actor Ray Winstone auctioned off two signed photos of him, taken from his film Sexy Beast.

The founder of the Hainault based charity, Avril Mills said: “Lisa has now been made patron of our charity – it was a fantastic evening and 282 people came to the ball and auction. I have done many of these events, but this evening saw the most money I have ever seen. I was astounded.”

Comedian Terry Alderton auctioned off a day in London with Eastenders’ Ricky and Bianca, Patsy Palmer and Sid Owen, which raised £1,000.

“So many dreams will be made a reality thanks to the generous people who came to the auction. A dream costs anything between £500 and £5,000, so we are always fundraising,” added Avril.

Local MP, Cllr O’Shea said: “It was a fantastic evening. Two recipients of dreams aged eight and 22 spoke about their dreams, which was moving. I’ve never seen an amount this big from a charity before!”

The charity are currently looking for volunteers who can help them in their efforts to make the dreams of poorly youngsters come true.
