An air cadet from Ilford has been selected from 4,000 young people for the job of a lifetime. Alexandra Dutch, of the Wanstead and Woodford Air Training Corps, Finchingfield Avenue, Woodford Green, has been chosen to accompany the Lord Lieutenant of Greater London, Sir David Brewer on some of his official engagements.
These engagements could include liaising with the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army, RAF and their cadets, going to social and civic events, presenting awards, and even escorting royal visitors.
Alexandra was put forward by her commanding officer for the post as one of three cadets who will serve the Queen’s London representative.
At an awards ceremony in London, Alexandra was presented with a badge and a certificate. The proud cadet “It is such an honour to be given this opportunity and I look forward to the duties I will be given.”
The 19 year old joined the corps in 2006, after she had shown an interest in the military. Alexandra is a flight sergeant, as the corps is divided into sections that are known as ‘flights’. Her new role means that she oversees 40 other cadets. She is in charge of their welfare and attendance, and must ensure that everything is running smoothly.
The sixth former at Oaks Park High School, Oaks Lane, Newbury Park said:”It’s a big responsibility and it’s great to know I’m helping people. I always looked up to the flight sergeant when I was younger and I hope I can be a role model to the other cadets.”
Congratulations were bestowed on Alexandra from Sir David, who is President of the Reserve Forces Cadets’ Association: “Your citations were outstanding to listen to and I am sure your parents are very proud of you.”
