Wedding guests set to flock to special venue

Couples who fancy having their weddings closer to nature rather than in the traditional venues, may be interested in a new Preston location. Newlyweds can hear the sound of birdsong rather than church bells now that the RSPB Leighton Moss reserve, Silverdale, Carnforth, is the first RSPB reserve to offer wedding ceremonies and host weddings.

They will offer small weddings for brides, grooms and up to 35 guests at the tranquil nature reserve.  And no horse drawn carriages and Rolls Royces around here, as couples are more than welcome to arrive at the ceremony on their bikes.

Visitor services manager, Jacqui Fereday, said: “They can come on their bikes or they can come walking. They can even have a guided tour as part of their offer. Or they could do pond-dipping if they wanted. Leighton Moss is such a beautiful place that we felt it would be a perfect spot for a wedding.”

The RSPB reserve is in the heart of the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The happy couples will have a stunning backdrop of reed bed pools and surrounding hills.

They have received interest from several people, but the small guest allowance has proved difficult for most people. The reserve also want to limit the amount of weddings that they host:

Jacqui said: “It’s a nature reserve, we don’t want to fill the place constantly. It’s a bit special. It’s such a beautiful place but it’s not a big fancy hotel.”

The reserve can hold weddings on weekdays between 9.30am and 4.30pm.
