Bob Hamilton, who turns 70 this year, has decided to make it much easier for his friends and family who are struggling to think of gift ideas; he has asked them to make donations to the LEP Lifesaver Appeal instead of buying a present.
Bob, who is married to Maureen, has decided to forgo any birthday presents and do his bit for the charity’s campaign that aims to raise £500,000 for a CT scanner for the Royal Preston Hospital.
Bob, a retired BAE worker from Fulwood, Preston said: “People never know what to buy you for your birthday and end up getting you all sorts that you don’t really need, or that you can manage without.
“Supporting a charity like the LEP Lifesaver Appeal is far more important to me than getting a bottle of whisky.”
Bob is having a birthday celebration at St Anthony’s Club in Fulwood, where he acts as the secretary. He will be 70 on the 27th December and he is looking forward to celebrating with his daughter and two grandchildren as well as 100 other friends and family members.
The appeal is close to Bob’s heart as he used to work as a as a volunteer driver for the North West Ambulance Service, transporting patients to hospital for radiotherapy and chemotherapy. He knows how important the latest equipment is to these patients.
Bob said: “Having the latest technology can make the difference between life and death and this scanner will help save the lives of trauma patients.”
