Stoke on Trent hope to attract film directors to town

Local officials in Stoke on Trent are encouraging Hollywood’s top directors to use the area as a location for their films. Stoke on Trent City Council are working with arts organisation Creative England in the hopes of raising the profile of the city so that directors will consider as a filming location.  Councillors and leaders have signed an agreement with Creative England which will make it easier for film companies and producers to gain access to Stoke if they wish …

Traders locked in relocation talks with City Council

Ten businesses in Stoke-on-Trent need to agree terms about a proposed move to the new Central Business District. The City Council is in talks to try and get the businesses to move from their current location on Broad Street in Hanley. They need to acquire the 10 buildings for their £180 million business district development scheme. The work in the area is expected to start by Christmas.

Alcohol ban for Stoke-on-Trent yobs

Alcohol restriction zones in the Stoke-on-Trent area have proved successful as anti-social behavior and street drinking have fallen in the region. Figures collected by Stoke-on-Trent City Council have found that overall, anti-social behavior disturbances have fallen in the places where the bans were being used.

Support for Donna Louise Children’s Hospice from Nantwich hotel

A hotel in Stoke onTrent has chosen The Donna Louise Children’s Hospice as its chosen charity for 2013. Rookery Hall Hotel & Spa, a 19th century four star hotel in the Nantwich area, has pledged to support the charity, raise funds and provide awareness of its services.

Plans fought for new home plans on derelict land

Plans to turn land which was once used for garages in Stoke on Trent and now stands derelict into a housing development is facing fierce opposition from local residents. Aspire Housing plan to build two three-bedroom detached houses on the derelict site but families living next to the proposed development are opposing the proposal as they fear that they will lose privacy and light.
