Local officials in Stoke on Trent are encouraging Hollywood’s top directors to use the area as a location for their films.
Stoke on Trent City Council are working with arts organisation Creative England in the hopes of raising the profile of the city so that directors will consider as a filming location. Councillors and leaders have signed an agreement with Creative England which will make it easier for film companies and producers to gain access to Stoke if they wish to use it in a film.
Mark Meredith, Stoke on Trent’s councillor in charge of economic development said: “Stoke has so much to offer film directors. This is where the industrial revolution started – we have lots of amazing industrial buildings which would provide great backdrops and the canal network. But we also have a lot of green space too – more proportionally than most other cities. We have a creative past with the ceramic industry and we want to keep that creative tradition going.”
Printers in Stone on Trent could also benefit if the new scheme requires any poster printing for part of the films’ promotions. Stoke is certainly well equipped with printers if the demand for these services should arise.
Filming in Stoke on Trent could boost the local economy and increase the region’s creative credentials.
