Mair says that the charity is close to her heart

Fundraiser Mair Jones is more than happy to take part in a charity walk because the cause is one that is very close to her heart.

Mair, 30, of Kidwelly, wants to raise money for the British Heart Foundation after she says the charity’s work changed her life.

She is just one of many people who will be taking part in the four-mile Llanelli Heart Town walk on June 24. The event will raise money for the British Heart Foundation’s 50th anniversary Mending Broken Hearts Appeal.

Mair had led a healthy and active lifestyle before being struck down by a heart condition at the age of 25.

She said: “Basically, I didn’t have a wall in the top chamber of my heart so it caused my heart to enlarge. They had to put a wall in the top chamber.

“I had the operation a year after I first fell ill, at the Heath Hospital in Cardiff.

“My mum took four months out of her job to care for me. My dad would have to lift me in and out of bed and to go to the toilet.

“I had a lot of support from the BHF in reading about my condition and thanks to their investment in lifesaving research, treatments such as mine have been made possible.

“That is why I’m supporting the Llanelli Heart Town walk.”
