A car dealership group will soon be starting a major recruitment drive as their plans for a city car dealership have been approved.
The Sinclair Group, which already owns several Swansea garages and dealerships, are building a new Volkswagen franchise dealership on Langdon Road next to their Mercedes and Audi garages.
The company already employs 120 people and the new dealership is expected to create 60 new jobs.
Jonathan Sinclair, director of the Sinclair Group, confirmed earlier this year that they hoped the VW dealership would be built and trading by the start of 2013.
He said: “Regardless of the economic climate, the growth of the business globally determines what we do on a local level.”
The company opened a Seat franchise in January. Councillors approved the planned development which will involve relocating the Sinclair group’s existing VW dealership to Swansea from Gorseinon.
The new VW building on Langdon Road will be made up of a workshop, stores and valet bays on the ground floor and a front of house reception and sales and office areas.
Councillors recommended the development and documents stated: “Given the existing neighbourhood context of a hotel, builders merchant and two adjacent high end motor dealerships, it is however considered that the proposal amounts to a logical completion of this southern stretch of frontage to Langdon Road.”
The council believes that the dealership will be a significant enhancement to the vacant area of land.
