A school in Ammanford near Swansea is using state-of-the-art technology to help its pupils learn – even when they do not realise that they are.
Ysgol Bro Banw, in Ammanford’s High Street, started using iPads in its classrooms last term.
It started with the pupils getting 60 of the shiny tablets and, with an order in the New Year for 2012, this number has now increased to 100.
The school’s Head Teacher Meryl Davies said: “We have got broadband throughout the school and that means the children can have a more flexible learning pattern. Many of the kids do not even realise they are learning.
“The pupils have responded to the opportunity with such gusto it’s difficult to bring lessons to a close, so eager are they to engage in learning.”
She commented that the school now had one of the finest facilities in Carmarthenshire in terms of new technology.
“What it has really enabled is the entire class to have involved access to technology.
“For a number of years we had a computer suite, but that’s slightly more limiting.
“We first go the iPads in last term. They are used in classrooms and children have all their literacy and mathematics activities on them. We purchased 60 initially and now we have got a total of 100 on the premises.
“At first it was for the juniors, but now the infant department can use them too.”
