£1,000 raised with haircuts for charity

A charitable hairdresser has already raised nearly £1,000 cutting hair on her days off. Alex Leagas, owner of Rags hairdressers in Bournemouth, has been opening her salon on Mondays and giving all the money that she makes to the British Disabled Waterski and Wakeboard Association.

Ceilings of twinkling stars have been added to rooms at Travelodge hotels in Bournemouth and sites throughout the UK. The starry ceilings are in response to a survey about the most desirable sleeping locations.

Family grateful for help following fire

A family who were left homeless following a blaze at their flat just days before Christmas has been left overwhelmed by the generosity of the readers of Bournemouth’s Daily Echo. Kay Gisbourne and her two children, 12-year-old daughter Megan and six-month-old son Toby, managed to escape with their lives after the fire at their Anstey Close home in Kinson on 20th December.

Excellence awards celebrated by Poole dentists

Poole Lane Dental Practice is celebrating after being awarded with an excellence award by local health chiefs. The Bournemouth dentists are overjoyed after weathering a 2009 crisis at their practice. Three years ago some patients raised concerned about a locum dentist using lax infection controls that could have caused infections.

New dental surgery in Bournemouth opened by former NHS chief

One of the NHS’s longest-serving chief executives has come out of retirement to open a new dentists in Bournemouth that has been named in his honour. The Browning Centre, Boscombe, has been specially designed for adults with disabilities and other conditions that may make it difficult for them to get dental treatment.

The Hotel of the Undead

A hotel in Bournemouth has been transformed into a horror set with roaming zombies passing guests in its corridors. The Carlton Hotel on the East Cliff is the setting for Wimborne local Kelvin Beer’s new movie Convention of the Dead.
