An organisation in Leamington Spa, near Coventry, is helping to support jobseekers and get them back to work.
Based at the Brunswick Healthy Living Centre in Old Town, the Brunswick Employment Club has been established for two years and has gone from strength to strength. The venture has been so successful that a second club has opened in Lillington.
The club was founded by Warwick District Council and supported by the Crown Routes consortium. 60 people have received help from the club and many have found employment in administrative, factory, sales, cleaning and retail roles.
Drop in sessions are held twice a week and around 15 people attend each one.
Employment advisor at the Old Town club, Isobel Jones, said: “There is clearly a need for what we do.
“We offer one-to-one support which is not offered elsewhere and we have the time to actually sit down and talk to people.
“We work with the Jobcentre Plus, whose staff told us that there are often people who travel to us from north Leamington, who are having to spend money on bus fares to do so.”
The Lillington library based club will offer one-to-one support and the free phones, computers, photocopiers and printers in Coventry. Advisors are available to help type up CVs and covering letters for people who are unable to do so. They can also help set up emails and help them fill in job application forms.
Ms Jones said: “We also stage mock interviews and can sign-post people to other agencies which might be able to help, or direct them towards volunteering posts, which can help people get back into the work ethic.
“Anyone can drop in and get on with their own thing or speak to us if they want to.”
North Leamington Employment Club is open from 10am to 2pm every Wednesday. There is no need to book an appointment. The Brunswick Club runs from 10am to 3pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. For more information email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01926 422123.
