Young Chefs Get Creative With Breakfast

A Trio of Breakfast treats and Rice Krispie Cinnamon Baked French Toast are just two of the breakfast recipes that have been dreamt up by young chefs who have been chosen as the semi-finalists in a competition.

Eight semi-finalists have been picked from heats for the Junior and Teen Chef of the Year competitions, which take place in the run-up to the Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival.

The winning young chefs will be given a chance to show off their skills at this year’s festival in the town centre in August.

The Junior Chef competition is for 8-12-year olds and the semi-finalists are Luke Schofield with his Breakfast Frittata, Jemima Wilson with her Double Yum French Toast, Darcy Chapman with her Trio of Breakfast treats and Abbey Chapman with her Rice Krispie Cinnamon Baked French Toast.

The Teen Chef competition is for 13-18-year-olds and the semi-finalists are Alice Lawton with her Kedgeree, Rory Davies with Rory’s Rarebit Breakfast, Joel Guinan with his Pain Perdu, Beans Bacon and Eggs and Fifi Bukhari with her Asparagus Soldiers Wrapped on Smoked Salmon and Dippy Egg.

Cllr Peter McBride, lead cabinet member for regeneration at Kirklees Council, said: “It’s great to see people getting into cooking at an early age.

“The semi-finalists put a lot of thought into their unique recipes and it will be great to see them produce their creations at these first heats.

“Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival is the biggest event of its kind for miles around and it’s a great opportunity for keen young chefs to show off their skills.”
