Charitable siblings sleep under stars

Three charitable children are giving up their beds to spend a night sleeping rough at the annual St Albans sleep-out.
Matthew Rabjohn, 10 and twin siblings Lucy and Andrew Rabjohn, 12 will be braving the cold at St Albans Abbey in the hopes that they will highlight the plight of the homeless. They are also aiming to raise money for LAMP, a youth homelessness charity in Luton where their mother Karen Rabjohn works.
Lucy said: “We’re very excited to do the sleep-out. It’s going to be cold, I’ll probably have to wear my whole wardrobe – hats, gloves, everything. I can sleep through earthquakes so I think it will be alright, I just hope it doesn’t snow. I will definitely be glad to get back to my bed and watch X Factor the next day. It will be scary but this is what some people do every night.”
The family have prepared themselves for the night with sleeping bags, cardboard boxes and survival bags to keep them warm. Luckily for them, there will be a kitchen offering the volunteers warm drinks and soup.
Andrew said: “Some people can’t even afford a survival bag though, so that’s why we are doing this. We are really lucky to have a nice house to live in but some aren’t as lucky so that’s why we want to raise money for LAMP.”
This is the first time that the children will be taking part in the sleep-out, but the third time for their mother Sharon.
Matthew said: “My mum works for a really good charity, which helps people whose mum’s and dad’s can’t look after them any more. I want to raise money to help LAMP help more young people.”
The children are aiming to raise £1,000 in total and have already raised £600 in sponsorship money.
The event raised £7,000 last year for LAMP and they are hoping to raise even more this year.
