Ghanaian children benefit from students’ donations

Luton Sixth Form College students have raised £500 to buy 1,000 bricks for care home for children in Ghana.
The Student Council at the college has donated to the project through mat-to-fore, a charity that helps orphaned and abandoned children in the village of Kumasi.
Fiona Beckford, who is a staff counselor at the college, saw the work that the charity does first hand when she visited the project in Ghana.
She said: “Before the charity arrived, the children in the village had no clean drinking water, no access to an education and many would go for days on end without a meal. Thanks to the amazing work of the charity, the village now has two water pumps, the children are being given an education and fed one meal a day.”
A Luton Sixth Form College plaque was erected at the entrance of one of the homes to commemorate their charity work. Principal Simon Kitchener said: “Once again, the students of Luton Sixth Form College have demonstrated their compassion and a real awareness of the needs of children in less fortunate circumstances than their own, by prioritising this donation over social events for themselves.”
