Chamber’s Cheryl receives palace honour

A “once in a lifetime” experience is how the chief executive of the Bedfordshire Chamber of Commerce described receiving her MBE at Buckingham Palace.
Cheryl Smart has spent 25 years working for the chamber and started working there to help export businesses. She has made a name for herself for her work taking businesses to many different countries around the world, some of which are known for their lack of hospitality towards women.
Her MBE was awarded for services to business and the medal was given to her by HRH The Prince of Wales.
Cheryl is also a trustee of the University of Bedfordshire Students’ Union, a board member of the local enterprise partnership SEMLEP and a governor of the Luton and Dunstable NHS Trust. She said: “I was very proud to be presented with my award by the Prince of Wales. It was a once in a lifetime day for me and my family and a great honour not only for me but also for Bedfordshire Chamber of Commerce.”
Cheryl went to the palace to receive the award with her daughters Donna and Kelly and her husband Ken.
