One of Coronation Street’s most famous love cheats has had the tables turned on her as she plays someone on the receiving end of an adulterer in the new theatrical version of Alfie.
Vicky Binns, who is well known for her role as Molly Dobbs on the Weatherfield cobbles, is starring in the play based on the 1960s Michael Caine classic.
Vicky’s character was killed off in the dramatic tram crash in the series of 50th anniversary Coronation Street episodes.
In Alfie, she will play Annie, the naïve girlfriend of the central character Alfie Elkins in the production at the Lancaster’s Dukes Theatre from April 3 to 7.
Vicky’s character Molly had an affair with married father Kevin Webster, played by Corrie stalwart Michael Le Vell.
She had a son by Kevin despite still being married to her devoted and loyal husband Tyrone.
Alfie was remade starring Jude Law in the central role and Sienna Miller, who played Binns’ role.
Vicky Binns said: “I’m thrilled to be involved in this production and I hope that people will come along to share in the celebration of this great local work.”
The production has been put on to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the death of Bill Naughton who wrote Alfie initially as a novel, then wrote the stage adaptation and the movie screenplay.
