Motorcyclists’ mission

A new emergency service that will deliver blood and urgent medical items to hospitals across Lancashire is being spearheaded by a retired policeman and keen motorcyclist. 63 year old Paul Brooks is the chairman of the North West Blood Bikes Lancashire and Lakes, a charitable organisation that transports blood, breast milk for premature babies and other urgent medical equipment out of hours in a bid to free up funds for hospitals.

Vicky starring in Alfie

One of Coronation Street’s most famous love cheats has had the tables turned on her as she plays someone on the receiving end of an adulterer in the new theatrical version of Alfie. Vicky Binns, who is well known for her role as Molly Dobbs on the Weatherfield cobbles, is starring in the play based on the 1960s Michael Caine classic.

Student at theatre given giant task

A Preston College student was given an unusually big job when she went to complete work experience at a Lancaster theatre. 22 year old Maxine Carr is the sole student studying for a two-year creative and cultural apprenticeship course at Preston College and is hoping to forge a career in theatrical costume making in the future. She spent a few days at Lancaster’s Dukes theatre’s wardrobe department to gain some more experience. The theatre has just celebrated its 40th anniversary …

Bob’s charitable birthday mission

Bob Hamilton, who turns 70 this year, has decided to make it much easier for his friends and family who are struggling to think of gift ideas; he has asked them to make donations to the LEP Lifesaver Appeal instead of buying a present. Stefan’s dead on target

Stefan Mols, a midfielder at Moorland School in Preston is being tipped for a successful future with Premier League side Blackburn Rovers, even though he is only 12 years old. University role in star-studded movie

Film star Greg Wise has been to Lancaster University this month in order to research his latest movie role. The actor visited the University to prepare for his part as John Ruskin, who is famous for being an influential Victorian art critic and writer. Wise will be playing Ruskin in the film “Effie” which tells the story of Ruskin’s ill-fated marriage to Effie Gray. Effie will be played by Dakota Fanning.
