Help for the Homeless from garage workers

When Tom Johnston and Richard Murphy discovered a homeless Polish man camping near their work the kind pair didn’t think twice about helping him.

The workers at RT Automotives garage in Swansea helped Jerzy Hoflich who was left without a home or a job when the accommodation and work he was promised in Wales fell through.

Since moving to Wales and having to live in a tent on the streets, Jerzy has suffered abuse, vandalism and had his possessions stolen by passing thieves.

Tom and Richard took him in and offered him food and shelter in the garage. They also decided to help the father of three return to Poland where his wife had been taken ill.

They saved up a little bit of money each week and within three months they had raised enough money to send him home.

Paolo Piana, of Llanelli Multicultural Network, has described the men’s charitable efforts as “inspirational”.

“Obviously what they did was absolutely incredible,” he said.

“It’s fantastic to know that we have Good Samaritans in our community here in Llanelli, who are willing to help someone in this way.

“They befriended this chap and helped him home to Poland, which was just marvellous.”

He added that they had also provided Jerzy with something invaluable and priceless when they gave Jerzy their friendship.

“The main thing we need in life is to feel we have a friend,” he said.

“And they certainly did that. The fact that we have got people like that in our community makes me very proud.”
