The 2012 Olympics opening ceremony, which was watched live by more than 24 million people last July, is among Bafta nominations this year.
The Olympics opening ceremony is a contender for the Radio Times audience title at this year’s Bafta Television Awards, along with the popular drama Call the Midwife.
Also nominated are US drama series Homeland, The Great British Bake Off, Strictly Come Dancing and Game of Thrones. The winner will be decided by a public vote.
Ben Preston, Editor of the Radio Times, said: “It’s a shortlist which perfectly captures a simply sensational television year.”
“From Danny Boyle’s Olympic Opening night extravaganza to a vintage Strictly and a monster hit like Call The Midwife, there’s something for everyone.”
He added: “This is a shortlist to savour and squabble over – and now it is up to the viewers to decide the winner.”
Amanda Berry, chief executive of Bafta, said the shortlist, which was chosen by a panel of 19 media journalists “reflects the increasing diversity of tastes among British viewers”.
She said: “Each one of the programmes has captured our attention, and it will be fascinating to see which one is the public’s favourite when we reveal the winner.”

The Bafta awards ceremony, which will be hosted by Graham Norton, will be staged at the Royal Festival Hall on London’s South Bank on Sunday May 12th and will be broadcast on BBC One.
Personally I think the Olympics opening ceremony has a great chance of taking the title. I remember being fairly cynical about the Olympics before it opened. I was blown away by the opening ceremony and then completely caught up in Olympic mania. It will be a deserving winner if it does get the vote.
